About QSP
Practical compliance, grounded in international production
I am Cornelis Ras, founder of QSP. I work at the point where food production, international trade and compliance meet.
- Founder-led and independent
- International factory experience
- Remote and on-site support

Profile
I look beyond the first document
QSP assignments often start with a specification, label, certificate or supplier dossier. I assess whether these documents accurately reflect the product, production process and controls behind them, what can be concluded and where further verification is needed.
This is particularly relevant for EU-based importers, trading companies and brokers that source products from outside the EU, often with limited direct visibility of the production behind them.
Practical experience
International experience in practice
I regularly visit factories across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. This has given me practical insight into differences in local regulations, technical capabilities, available resources, working cultures and methods of documenting control.
EU requirements do not change because of local circumstances. The practical route to meeting and demonstrating those requirements, however, often does. I connect local capabilities and constraints with the control and evidence required for the EU market, without lowering the standard or imposing a template that does not work in practice.
My main specialization is seafood within international supply chains. In this sector, processing, temperature control, additives, weight, grading, labelling, traceability and documentation are closely connected. This has taught me to look beyond the first document and determine where the real issue sits.
I apply the same structured approach more broadly across food products, within a clearly defined scope.
How I work
I translate in both directions
I translate what happens on the production floor into clear processes, specifications, procedures, controls and evidence. In the other direction, I translate regulatory and customer requirements into measures that people can understand and apply during day-to-day production.
Compliance sometimes requires changes or clear boundaries, but it should not become an administrative system detached from the operation. A good quality system supports the production floor, helps prevent mistakes and provides reliable evidence that the process is under control.
I start with the decision that needs to be made rather than with a standard checklist. I look at the product, process, role in the supply chain, intended market and available evidence. I then distinguish between actual legal or food-safety issues, missing evidence, inconsistencies, operational risks and customer-specific requirements.
I am pragmatic, but not casual about compliance. Practicality does not mean lowering the standard. It means focusing effort on the points that affect legality, safety, control and the decision at hand.
Where I add value
Practical support for your role in the supply chain
Importers, trading companies and brokers
Supplier dossiers can appear complete while still containing contradictions, unsupported claims or gaps that point to a wider production issue. I assess whether the available information is consistent and plausible in relation to the product and process, what is missing, which claims require evidence and when further verification is necessary.
This provides a stronger basis for product and supplier approval, purchasing decisions, customer communication and supplier follow-up. Where internal quality capacity is limited, I provide focused external support without turning a defined question into an open-ended consultancy project.
Because importers, trading companies and brokers do not automatically have the same legal responsibilities, the scope is always based on your actual role in the supply chain.
Producers supplying the EU
I help producers compare their products, processes and supporting evidence with applicable EU and customer requirements. Together, we identify the gaps and develop improvements that are workable locally and provide the control required for the EU market.
EU food manufacturers
I help manufacturers identify where documented systems and actual production no longer align and translate new legal or customer requirements into proportionate improvements without creating unnecessary operational complexity.
Start with the actual question
Send me a short description of the product, supplier or situation, together with the information you already have. I will help determine what can be concluded, what still needs to be verified and what the appropriate next step is.
